Serra Geral mountain rage
From The Banana Tree Guesthouse you can see the Serra Geral mountain range on the horizon, a range which until the last thirty years was pretty much isolated from the rest of the state. Now, with vastly improved roads, it is relatively easy to take the three hour drive to Urubici, a town which lies conveniently in the middle Săo Joaquim national park. From Urubici, we can explore waterfalls and vistas, taking in views from 1800 metres above sea level. There are plenty of opportunities for trekking in this area and enjoying the variety of wildlife and natural beauty.
Accomodation and Eating
While this area is relatively off the beaten track, there are a number of excellent farm hotels and a one or two very good restaurants. Our favourite hotel is Serra Bela Fazenda, which has rooms and chalets set in a beautifully landscaped garden, overlooking a pretty lake. In season, the hotel offers dinner, and also has a barbecue area.
White Water Rafting
Get really close to nature with a spot of white water rafting. In Santo Amaro da Imperatriz, on the road to Anitápolis and Serra Geral, there are a number of companies offering rafting experiences for people of all
